Looking to update your Trim or Siding. We can help.

Preparing for Your Home’s Siding Makeover

If your siding is looking beat up and faded, it may be time for a change. New siding can increase your home’s value, curb appeal and completely transform its look. Because siding projects take about 1-2 weeks, you will want to get your project done before cold weather sets in.

Here’s some tips to get started!

Research

Start by finding a reputable contractor. Be sure to ask them what types of siding they have experience with.

Next, you’ll want to select what type of siding to use. Remember that the cost of the project is the siding and the labor combined. That’s why we recommend LP SmartSide, which is very easy to work with. In addition to cost, you’ll want to consider the siding’s durability and maintenance needs.

Lastly, you need to choose between primed siding or prefinished siding. Primed siding offers the flexibility to be painted any color you choose, while prefinished siding requires less time and labor. LP SmartSide’s ExpertFinish Siding comes in 16 different colors.

Preparation

Because it’s an exterior project, siding your home shouldn’t be too invasive or disruptive. Still, there are ways to make the process easier. Clear your yard of furniture and decorations. Cover your flower beds with tarps. Remove picture frames from the walls and secure other breakables that may fall if the house shakes.

Now available in 16 versatile prefinished colors, the ExpertFinish® color collection is guaranteed to look great and remain durable for years to come due to a factory finish with acrylic latex paint. ExpertFinish Lap also features a proprietary joint that helps you avoid the need for seam caulking, joint molds, or pan flashing.

Siding Replacement Process

Once you’ve chosen your trim and siding and created a plan with your contractor, the replacement process is pretty straightforward. Here’s what you can expect:

Get Rid of Existing Trim and Siding
Out with the old, in with the new! The first thing your builders will do is tear off and discard your old siding and trim. This may mean a dumpster is parked in front of your house for some or all of the project, but don’t worry – it will be hauled away soon to reveal your new exterior siding.

Inspect Walls and Sheathing
With the old siding gone, builders will inspect your walls for rot and structural damage. They will also decide if you need to replace your weather resistive barrier.

Install Trim and Siding
Now it’s time for your new siding! Once your team of builders have determined that they’re set to move forward, they will officially begin the trim and siding installation process and you can watch your vision come to life.
